Ride Manager:        Carolyn Burgess, email: Carolyn@doubleheartranch.com

Phone: 978-897-6624 (not the best way to reach me as I’m never home, but if you call please leave a message with a number and a time to call)
** There will be 2 Professional Photographers at this event!

Judges:  Lindsay Robbins, DMV (vet) and Elaine Mason (lay judge)

Entries:       Open to all equines 60 months and older (equines 48 to 60 months old can enter the 25 mile ride, in accordance with ECTRA rules).  Juniors are not allowed to ride stallions and must have sponsors according to ECTRA rules.

FEE:   $60 for the 25 CTR, $65 for the 35 CTR.

Food:   We will have dinner on Friday night, breakfast on Saturday, snacks & drinks on trail, and lunch after the ride on Saturday.  Extra meals can be purchased (see entry form).

Divisions:   There will be one adult division and one junior division for each distance (25 miles and 35 miles).  Ribbons to a total of 10 adult placings and all juniors will be placed. There will be a Champion and Reserve Champion over all for each ride.

Scoring:   Horses to be judged 100% on condition.  This will be decided solely by the vet judge and lay judge. Arguing with either is grounds for disqualification.

Trails and times:   There are two rides: One will cover approximately 25 miles and the second is a 35 mile ride. The trails are mostly dirt roads with some trails in the woods. The footing can have some deep sand with a few hills. This ride would be a good first ride as the footing is excellent and trails are mostly wide open roads.  Time allowed for the 25 mile CTR will be 4 hours 10 minutes to 4 hours and 40 minutes. The time allowed for the 35 mile CTR is 5 hours 55 minutes to 6 hours 25 minutes.  The 35 mile riders will go out first at approximately 8 am, in pairs or threes (depending on the number of entries).  There will be a break after all of the 35’s have been sent out.  The 25’s will go out next, also in either pairs or threes (depending on entries as well).  Starting order will be prearranged so if you want to ride with someone please indicate so on your ride entry form.  Exact distance and time will be announced at the pre-briefing, which will be held Friday evening after all of the vetting is done, and after dinner.

Pre Ride Vetting: Vetting will be done on Friday afternoon. There will be no Saturday morning vetting unless prearranged with the ride manager.  Local riders can leave the grounds after vetting but must be back on site no later than 7 am on Saturday, April 8, 2006.

Rules: These rides are being run in accordance with ECTRA rules. It is your responsibility as a rider to know the rules.  You can get a copy of the ECTRA rule book at http://www.ectra.org.

Shoeing: A farrier may not be available. This ride may be appropriate for barefoot horses.  Please contact me in advance if you are thinking of riding this barefoot for more information about the trails.

Vaccinations and Medical Certificates:  You must have a current Coggins certificate and rabies vaccination certificate.  I would prefer to receive copies of both with the ride entry form, however I understand that there are reasons that they can’t be sent at that time.  You can fax them to me later at 419-735-1117 or bring it with you to the ride.  I would like a copy for my records so if you are bringing it to the ride, please bring a copy for me to keep.  Massachusetts requires all out of state equines to have a Coggin’s certificate that is no more than 6 months old.  Please be aware of this before you travel.  It is your responsibility to get any and all travel documents required by your state and the State of Massachusetts, including, but not limited to health certificates.

Camping:   Camping is welcome in the field and pens may be put up. There is limited space in the field so please do not park until you are directed to do so by ride staff.  Please contact me if you plan to arrive prior to Noon on Friday, April 7th.  There are not a lot of trees so picket lines are not feasible.  There are no stalls available.  Be prepared to take home your manure and hay.   Dogs must be on a leash at all times.  NO EXCEPTIONS and I’m serious about this. You will be asked to leave the ride if your dog is found off a leash and there will be no refunds if you are asked to leave.

I agree to take full responsibility for myself and my horse; I recognize that the ride is a strenuous activity and I represent that I and my horse are in adequate physical and mental condition to participate, I recognize that my participation in the ride is voluntary.  I consent to a drug test to be performed on my horse.
